The Mercury dime is one of the most famous and highly sought-after dimes in American history. It was designed by Adolph A. Weinman and was minted between 1916 and 1945. These coins were struck using 90% pure silver and 10% copper and has a diameter of 17.9 mm and a weight of 38.58 grams. 1941 Mercury Dime CoinTrackers.com has estimated the 1941 Mercury Dime value at an average of $2, one in certified mint state (MS+) could be worth $25. 1941 Mercury dimes in the MS-60 to MS-63 range can be had for around $10, with MS-65 piece – those with crisp detail and flashy, white surfaces – costing around $25 to $30 each. If you’re willing to shell out a small premium above those amounts, you could fetch yourself a 1941 Mercury dime with fully split bands (FSB), which means the horizontal lines in the bands surrounding the fasces show complete. UNITED STATES LEGAL TENDER—The Mercury Dime was 10 cents legal tender in the United States at a time when a dime could purchase a Superman comic book, a loaf of bread or two bottles of Coca-Cola. FINE CONDITION – Each coin in your 1941–1945-PDS Mercury Dime 15-Piece Set will come in Fine (F) condition with sharp lettering and moderate but. Mercury dimes are also known as Winged Liberty Head dimes. The US minted the 1941 dime with no mint mark and also the 1941 D dime and 1941 S dime. The mint mark, when present, can be found on the reverse side of the coin.
The most popular design for the ten cent denomination is the Mercury Dime, which was produced from 1916 to 1945. During this time period mintages varied widely from just a few hundred thousand for the well known key date to more than 200 million for some years. Assembling an a collection for each date and mint mark within the series is an ambitious but approachable goal for collectors.
Designed by Adolph A. Weinman, the obverse of the coin features a portrait of Liberty facing left. She wears a winged cap, which led to the popular moniker for the series. It is often noted that the Roman god Mercury actually had wings on his feet. The obverse inscriptions are “Liberty”, “In God We Trust”, and the date. On the reverse is a Roman fasces, which consists of sticks bound around an axe, and an olive branch. The inscriptions are “United States of America”, “One Dime”, and “E Pluribus Unum”.
